After the volcanic devastation, La Palma banks on sustainable tourism

La “Isla Bonita”, the beautiful island of La Palma in the Atlantic, has so far been spared from mass tourism. But that may have to be its future – with some cautious eco-tweaks and provisos. Located in the Canaries, the island was long known for its breathtaking landscapes, unspoiled nature, hospitable locals and mild climate, even in winter. Visitor numbers were then decimated by the pandemic and the major eruption of a volcano, since named Tajogaite, that wrought devastation from last September until just before Christmas.
