Amnesty urges Egypt to free activist Alaa Abdel-Fattah

A leading human rights watchdog on Thursday urged Egyptian authorities to allow the family of a prominent activist serving a five-year sentence access to him, and reiterated calls for his immediate release. For nearly 10 days, Alaa Abdel-Fattah’s family members had not received any word from him and were told by prison officials that he is refusing to meet with them, Amnesty International reported.
