At least three killed in train accident in southern Germany

At least three people have been killed in a train accident on Friday near the southern German town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a local official said. A number of people were seriously injured when the train derailed in the village of Burgrain, a spokesman for the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district office told dpa. The passenger train was travelling towards Munich when it came off the tracks for reasons that have yet to be established, police spokesman Stefan Sonntag said. Sonntag added that a “major operation” was under way to free passengers from the wreckage.
