Austria in favour of €2 billion EU border aid for Bulgaria

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer has spoken out in favour of supporting Bulgaria with €2 billion ($2.2 billion) to secure the European Union’s external border with Turkey. After a flight over the land border with Turkey, Nehammer said on Monday he would lobby the EU for financial aid for Bulgaria, the Bulgarian news agency BTA reported. Nehammer was accompanied by Bulgarian President Rumen Radev. Austria had vetoed Bulgaria and Romania’s Schengen accession at the end of 2022 because of irregular migration across this external EU border.
