Austria to impose new lockdown, make Covid-19 vaccination compulsory

Austria is set to become the first European Union country to make coronavirus vaccines mandatory, it announced on Friday, as its leaders told the country that a lockdown has to start next week if there is to be any hope of stopping the virus’ spread. The vaccine requirement will be implemented in February and administrative penalties will be imposed for violations of the mandatory vaccination rule, Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg said.
