Berlin alarmed as Nord Stream gas flows to fall to 20% of capacity

Russian state energy giant Gazprom said on Monday it will cut gas flows through it main pipeline to Germany to 20% of capacity, fuelling fears about the potential for a total stoppage that could have disastrous effects on Europe’s largest economy. The company said that natural gas flows through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline that runs below the Baltic Sea from Russia to northern Germany would drop to 33 million cubic metres on Wednesday at 6 am (0400 GMT).
