Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles says she’ll seek a third term

In a Thanksgiving Day video message, Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles announced that she’ll seek reelection in 2022. Lyles, a Democrat, was elected mayor in 2017, when she captured 59% of the vote. She won again in 2019 with 77% of the vote, according to the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections. Prior to becoming mayor, Lyles served two terms on City Council as an at-large representative. During Lyles’ terms as mayor, the city committed $50 million to tackle Charlotte’s affordable housing crisis, according to the city’s website.
