Chris Hipkins is set to become New Zealand’s next prime minister, following the surprise resignation of Jacinda Ardern. Hipkins was the sole nominee for the leader of the Labour Party, Labour whip Duncan Webb announced in a statement on Saturday. The 44-year-old’s nomination still needs to be formally endorsed by the Labour Party caucus. That will take place on Sunday, Webb said.
