Court postpones ‘insult’ case against potential Erdogan contender

An Istanbul court postponed a verdict in a case against Istanbul’s opposition party mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu over allegedly insulting state officials in a 2019 speech on Wednesday. The hearing was adjourned to September 21, İmamoğlu’s press office said. Prosecutors are seeking up to four years in prison for İmamoğlu who slammed the proceedings as “shameful” and urged the court to act within the laws in a video message on Twitter on Wednesday.
