Czech authorities are to release more water from the country’s dam system along a tributary to the Elbe River, to assist with firefighting in the region, Agriculture Minister Zdenek Nekula said on Twitter. The outflow from the Vltava Cascade is to be increased by 20 cubic metres per second, equivalent to more than 1.7 million cubic metres of additional water per day. The additional water is intended to raise levels on the Elbe to facilitate the work of helicopters picking up water to fight fires on both the Czech and German sides of the border.
