Potatoes and onions can both be stored for a longer period of time in a dark place, which is why they often end up side by side in the pantry. However, that’s not an ideal combo, experts say. According to German consumer advisors, you should try to store them separately as onions absorb the moisture emitted by potatoes, causing them to rot more quickly.
