Egypt prisoner denied cancer treatment starts hunger strike

An Egyptian political prisoner is on an open-ended hunger strike after being denied treatment for cancerous tumours in his body. Thirty-one-year-old Wahid Hassan is imprisoned in the Abu Kabir police station in Sharqiya province in northeastern Egypt. He began his hunger strike last week, according tothe Egyptian Network for Human Rights, after authorities refused to release him or transfer him to Egypt’s only treatment centre for cancerous tumours in Cairo.
