German environment minister against building new motorways

Germany does not need any more motorways, Environment Minister Steffi Lemke said on Tuesday. Speaking to national public radio Deutschlandfunk, the Green politician said the country already had the second-most dense road network in the world. In the light of global warming, and species extinction, there was no need to plan further motorways. Some of the projects currently being planned would never have been launched today, she said.
