German leader calls for ‘Marshall Plan’ for Ukraine ahead of summits

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has called for a “Marshall Plan” to aid Ukraine’s post-war recovery ahead of three back-to-back summits of EU, G7 and NATO leaders. Speaking before the German parliament on Wednesday, Scholz said that the reconstruction of Ukraine after Russia withdraws its troops would be “a generational task” that had to be supported by a “Marshall Plan.” Billions of euros will have to be disbursed over a period of years in order to support Ukrainian recovery, Scholz said.
