Germany has registered more than 80,000 coronavirus infections in one day for the first time, according to figures released Wednesday by the country’s national disease control agency. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 80,430 new infections within a 24-hour period – up by more than 21,500 on the figure from a week before. The seven-day incidence has also increased nationwide, although data is still considered incomplete after the Christmas and New Year holidays led to fewer tests being carried out and fewer cases being reported.
