Members of outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrats (CDU) expressed criticism on Thursday of the parties currently in talks to form a new government, as parliament debated moves to counter the coronavirus pandemic. Outgoing Health Minister Jens Spahn said the parties – the Social Democrats (SPD), the Greens and the pro-business FDP – had failed to take into account advice from his ministry with respect to the powers accorded the 16 states, which bear responsibility for health policy.
