Germany’s Scholz optimistic despite concern over Ukraine crisis

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz sees the need for progress in diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Russia and Western powers over Ukraine, as talks between Moscow and NATO got under way in Brussels. “There are now talks taking place on four levels. This is good progress,” he told the German parliament. “The troop manoeuvres along the Ukrainian border are a cause for concern, and worry me greatly on a personal level,” he said. “All diplomatic means should be used in order to improve European security,” he said.
