The president of the German Medical Association is calling for a nationwide alert system to prevent heat-related deaths, as Europe’s sweltering temperatures draw attention to the health risks of extreme summer weather. “A national heat plan should propose temperature-dependent alarm levels on a scientific basis, as well as the respective measures to be taken, especially for risk groups, and make the corresponding responsibilities transparent,” Klaus Reinhardt told dpa in Berlin.
