Hirschbuehl fights back for famous World Cup win

Austria’s Christian Hirschbuehl is finally an Alpine skiing World Cup winner after claiming an unlikely success over compatriot Dominik Raschner at their home parallel event in Lech/Zuers on Sunday. Hirschbuehl failed to qualify for the season-opening giant slalom in Soelden and only reached the knock-out phase of the parallel ranked 15th of 16. Top seed Raschner, 27, seemed set for his own first triumph when he led the first run of the final by half a second but Hirschbuehl, as he had done repeatedly throughout the day, overturned the deficit on the decisive run to win by 0.07 seconds.
