In 2019, I planned to speak in support ofrepealing the State And Local Tax (SALT) cap, which ended an unlimited deduction for state and local taxes against federal income taxes. Now I know I was wrong. The SALT deduction was capped at $10,000 as part of the 2017 federal tax-cut law. Some say the previously unlimited cap avoids double taxation, but the numbers show it was a huge handout to the rich.
