Leclerc seals pole for French Grand Prix, Verstappen second

Charles Leclerc continued Ferrari’s recent strong form by snatching pole position for Sunday’s French Formula One Grand Prix, edging out championship leader Max Verstappen. Monaco’s Leclerc, who won last time out in Austria, set a best lap of 1 minute 30.872 seconds at the 5.842-kilometres Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet. Red Bull’s defending champion Verstappen, who had shown impressive race pace in the practice sessions, was 0.304 seconds behind for second spot on the grid with team-mate Sergio Perez third quickest in a windy qualifying.
