One-third of German postal workers walk out in nationwide strikes

The union Verdi called for more postal strikes across Germany on Saturday, after about a third of the workforce walked out on Friday over a wage dispute. Some 16,700 postal workers participated in Friday’s strike, exceeding the estimate of 15,000 that Verdi gave on Thursday evening, when workers first walked off. Verdi, Germany’s second largest union, wants a one-year 15% wage hike for 160,000 workers, which the company has rejected as unrealistic.
