More than 1 million people in France have opposed the government’s plans to raise the retirement age for most workers in a series of major strikes and mass protests on Thursday. A total of 1,120,000 people protested nationwide, 80,000 of them in Paris alone, according to the Interior Ministry on Thursday evening. The trade unions spoke of a turnout of more than 2 million people at more than 200 protests.
