Over 500 migrants arrived to the Italian island of Lampedusa on Monday evening on an old fishing boat, local media reported. The iron 15-metre-long vessel was intercepted by the Guardia di Finanza customs police some 7 kilometres off the island and escorted to its port, the ANSA news agency reported. Among the migrants – believed to come from Morocco, Syria, Bangladesh and Egypt – were women and children, the agency reported, adding that the boat was believed to have set sail from Libya.
