Scholz urges Balkan countries to speed up reforms for EU accession

Kosovo’s leader announced that his country intends to apply for EU membership by the end of the year during a visit on Friday by the German chancellor, who said reforms are vitally needed if Western Balkan countries are to join the bloc. Kosovo, which has been an independent country since 2008, currently only has the status of a potential candidate in the EU.
