Second-quarter revenue beats estimates at Netflix

US subscription streaming service Netflix said on Tuesday that its earnings for the second quarter had increased from last year and beat estimates. The company’s earnings came in at $1.44 billion, or $3.20 per share. This compares with $1.35 billion, or $2.97 per share, in last year’s second quarter. Analysts on average had expected the company to earn $2.96 per share, according to figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts’ estimates typically exclude special items. The company’s revenue for the quarter rose 8.6% to $7.97 billion from $7.34 billion last year.
