NEW YORK — First, the context to which this column should be dissected and understood before I defend Julius Randle: Battling the fans is always a bad idea. It’s a setup for failure. The fans buy the tickets, the merchandise. They boost the ratings and their presence allows Randle to make $22 million this year to toss a leather ball into a metal rim.
