Albert Vasilyev is not likely to forget the summer he spent firefighting in Siberia – but a glance at his charred boots is an instant reminder of the dangers he faced. Vasilyev, 49, made it through the season without being seriously injured but the fires are still burning in his native Yakutia, even as autumn approaches.
