Nine people were shot dead in the greater Los Angeles area on the sidelines of Chinese New Year celebrations on Saturday night, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office tweeted. Reports said numerous people had been injured. According to eyewitnesses, a man fired an automatic rifle. The incident occurred on Saturday evening shortly after 10 pm (0600 GMT on Sunday) in Monterey Park, a city in the urban area.
