World number one Medvedev cruises through in Halle

Men’s tennis world number one Daniil Medvedev had little difficulty in reaching the last 16 of the ATP tournament in Halle on Wednesday with a straight sets win over David Goffin. Russia’s Medvedev was far too strong for his Belgian opponent, a runner-up at the tournament in 2019, and wrapped up his 6-3, 6-2 victory in just 1 hour 4 minutes. The 26-year-old Medvedev, unlike the majority of others playing on grass in the western German city, is not using the tournament as a tune-up for Wimbledon as he is banned by the All England Club due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
